Testing, Testing, One, Two, Three

Caleb went in to CHOP today to have his first test done. It's called a Meckel's scan (checking for, creatively named, Meckel's), and it was looking for stomach tissue that is in the wrong place. He was sedated, given some radioactive fluid through his IV and then for 30 minutes he had continuous pictures of his belly taken. We also learned that he has lost 1/2 pound since Tuesday. Just keeping that chic figure of his :)

I learned several things.

1. Caleb has apparently inherited my hatred for needles. The nurses always comment on how feisty he is, but today took the cake. Poor kid is going to need some serious therapy.

2. Sedation works really well.

3. When in doubt, tape the child to the table. Seriously? Why did I not think of this first?

Caleb had to be NPO (nothing by mouth) for several hours before the test. Add that to the fact that they ran 1.5 hours late and I was faced with one of the first (of many, I am sure) moments where I had to eat my words as a mother. I took him to McDonalds. Bleh. But he sure did love him some chicken McNuggets.

Next up? Barium Enema to check for Hirschsprung's and a Sweat Test to check for Cystic Fibrosis.

Bring it on.

Oh wow! That does sound tiring and just plain hard. What a series of tests they have for him. It'll be a glorious day when they found out what it really is! :)

Sorry I didn't call back... boy it's been a day. Thanks for you message. We are definitely going to be getting together this week (meaning sometime in the next 7 days) to have some Birthday fun! :) Yay!

I'm sorry I know it sucks to see your baby miserable. I hope everything will turn out well and he'll be back to pictures of eating spaghetti in no time!

ah! AMANDA! Poor kid. I swear, he's the toughest thing in Philly. Bless his heart. It can't be easy seeing your child pricked and sedated. Let us know if you need some din din brought in.

Poor little guy. I'm sure it'll be well worth it in the end, but try telling that to the wee little one.

First, you are awesome. Plain and simple.
Second, this blog is realy interesting. You should publish. I am sure there are moms all over who could be strengthened just by reading this. Seriousy, you've got to put yourself out there.
If Douce can make hundred of K's a year so can you. And your writing and material trump her anyday.
