To Suck or Not to Suck

I'm struggling with an age old parenting issue. Caleb has found his thumb. Now I have to decide. Do I fight it? Do I enjoy the peace and quiet? Is it worth the effort to try and dissuade him from sucking his thumb? Or do I just deal with it later? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

He might be... hadn't thought about that.

Never fought this one Amanda...but I don't know if it needs fighting. Maeli has been biting her fingernails since she was less than 2 years old. I have told her a million times to stop it, but with no success. Kids are kids. Just ask yourself if he's hurting himself and if he's happy.

Amanda,

Found you through Soren and Mandy--now how are you related?

Anyway, without knowing the backstory, I offer my humble opinion. I didn't give my little ones solids until age 6 months. They did nurse a lot. Saved a lot of baths, I guess.

I also started them on pacifiers early on, even if they kept spitting them out. Patience and persistence wins. My thinking was it is easier to toss away a pacifier (somewhere between 12-15 months old) than fingers. It worked nicely for me.

Best wishes,
Clorie
